   Safe Return Program

Northern Territory's Safe Return is a program in conjunction with NT Police in Darwin, Alice Springs and Katherine which allows carers to start a search for a person who has dementia and who has wandered from home.

What is the Safe Return Program?

Safe Return is a program which gives carers of people with Alzheimer’s disease or any other memory loss related disorder, peace of mind if the person with dementia in their care wanders.

How does it work?

Safe Return involves a personalized numbered bracelet, which is linked to the NT Police database containing details to help find the missing person. This service operates 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

Carers can use Safe Return to start a search for a person who has dementia and who has wandered from home.

The carer can contact the NT Police on their 24 hour hotline and quote the number on the back of the bracelet.  This number is linked to a Police database containing details to help find the missing person.  Information on the database includes a recent photo, written physical description and the places where the person may wander.

Who is eligible to participate?

Anyone who has dementia, and may wander.

What costs are involved?

There is a once off registration fee of $20.
